The type of flue that is chosen should depend on the application of the flue and the type of fuel that is used by the boiler.
John: Register burners were commonly used for gas and oil fuels. For fuel gas, they were equipped with multiple spud elements (lanc-es), or perhaps a center fire gun, or a gas ring burner element (Figure 1). For fuel oil, a gun-type burner (atomizer) would be inserted down the center of the register burner.
The Unigas can be used for most common fuels including natural gas, LPG, oil and kerosene, coal, coke and anthracite. Up to six additional fuels can be programmed by the operator. The gas sensors are built into the handset. The gas is sampled via a probe which is inserted into the flue. A small pump in the handset draws the flue gas into the analyzer.
These long run times produce oil soot that may adhere to the sides of the chimney and eventually fall to the base of a masonry chimney or directly into the top of the oil-fired appliance. This fallen soot build-up may restrict the flow of flue gases which consist mostly of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapor.
